Quest Diagnostics wanted me to fill out a survey of my experience. So I gave it to them including the following message.

I have had the most frustrating experience with Quest. First I received a bill in the mail over $1000.00 and I saw that my insurance information was outdated and I tried so hard to contact Quest and update my insurance. I contacted my doctor’s office and they got you updated with my insurance with Beazley which I get through my work paycheck deductions. I got mail from my insurance which said that I owe 139.71. I had to call my doctor’s office again just to get a phone number I could reach you at. Then I still got a machine instead of a person which said that I owed $517.42. I do not understand this discrepancy and your automated system is really screwed up. I had to fight long and hard to figure out how to pay my bill and I did go ahead and payed the $517.42 but I do not think I really owe this much based on the letters I got from my insurance company. Still, I want this to be over. However I really would like an apology or explanation of what the hell is happening here. I do occasional blood draws at my doctor’s office and I don’t understand why the charges are so outrageous.

I will most likely be at work if you call today but please give me a number where I can actually talk to a person and not deal with phone automated systems. I am busy and don’t have time for this Bolshevik.
Please explain why the information I received from my insurance company differs from what your phone system and website says I owe. My claim numbers are 02171411-01 and 02171411-02 in the two letters I received are stating that my responsibility is $61.15 and $58.56. Together that makes $139.71 and not $517.42

Now those who did not have the time to read the story can listen if they are brave enough to hear my story. It starts out rough but it does get better. It’s also a great way to help me financially since I am struggling financially, especially after paying the producer so I can get this published. I believe this story will help people. There is so much more I wish I could tell people but this much I know. I have met the truth and the truth has set me free.

My roommate, River, informed me that October 11 is national coming out day. In celebration of this I thought I would share some happy moments we have had recently.

The checkerboard dress you see in these pictures was one I bought myself around the time of my 31st birthday when I came out as transgender for the first time. River and I were playing around with it and taking some memory pictures. It was a good time.

River and I are both transgender, but we go far beyond expectations of people and it’s important to not let people put us into a box of expectations. Not all trans people want or need the same things. If I had to describe being transgender in my own words, I would say that it is about not letting other people’s prejudice or the body you were born with define what person you are. That’s why people come out and live as their most Honest self, even though they are sometimes misunderstood. Years ago I didn’t know what all the talk about LGBT pride was about, but I do now.

People see me in my daily life as I work my job. Some of them mistakenly think I am a “regular person”, but others know not to judge a book by its cover and that there is a much more fabulous person that only those who spend time with me in a judgement free zone can get to know. River lives with me and we see each other at our best and our worst. Never have I been so happy.

And today is also the day that we are celebrating River’s birthday. Tomorrow is his birthday but I will be working, so today is a most triumphant celebration! That is why we are so alive, so proud, and so gaaay!!!
