Artificial Intelligence Knows You Are Gay

I saw a video by Finnster talking about how AI can detect if people are gay.

Honestly, I was not surprised. It is well known that humans are capable of guessing with over 50% accuracy whether someone is gay.

The question I have is not whether AI can genuinely detect who is gay but whether it can distinguish being gay from being asexual, transgender, or intersex. If you read my “Conceived this Way” post, you will know that being gay or transgender could actually be caused by an intersex condition in some cases.

Since the number and type of chromosomes vary between people since conception and since hormone levels also make a huge difference in the way someone develops physically, could there be physical differences between gay and straight people that AI can pick up on and use to know the difference?

My answer is 100% yes. In fact, the US government knew there were physical differences and used them to exclude gays from the military.

A direct quote from Wikipedia:

“To regulate homosexuality in the US military, physical exams, and interviews were used to spot men with effeminate characteristics during recruitment. These exams included having wider hips and the absence of a gag reflex in prospective soldiers. Both of these physical characteristics could get a man disqualified from service. Many soldiers accused of homosexual behavior were discharged for being “sexual psychopaths”, although the number of discharges greatly decreased during wartime efforts.[13]”

Of course, there are many types of gay and straight people, so the results of human guesswork and artificial intelligence won’t be 100% accurate all the time. In fact, there are two entirely different groups of gay men. Some of them are ultra feminine and are confused with transgender women (some people are both), and then other men can appear very masculine in the body, but the mind still thinks very gay.

It’s important to note that this technology could be used as a tool for discriminating against LGBTQIA+ people. However, the act of trying to guess who is different so that people can kill them or deny them employment was always a reality. AI will serve the purpose of the humans that use it. We should be concerned about the humans who hate us rather than the machines themselves which do what they are programmed to do.
