  • Chapter 0: But why a chess coach?

I anticipate that some will be surprised at my latest business idea of becoming a chess coach. They may wonder where this idea came from. You see, I am a Full Sail University student who will no doubt be in debt for the rest of my life. As it stands, I have over $19,000 in debt, and by the time I graduate with my degree in “Game Business and Esports Science”, I imagine it will be far worse.

Many people have told me to start a business. I have never been without ideas on how to build a business.

Never mind that I published 3 video games: Chaste Tris, Chaste Puyo, and Chaste Panel.

Never mind that I published a series of books (which no one reads) called “Chandler’s Honesty,” which documents much of my life as I have conversations with a unicorn.

And never mind the fact that I have no money or time to start a business like most people do. I never succeeded in conventional ways in society, and I did not get my first job till I was 25(and not for lack of trying either).

I am finally in a good place right now because in 2023, I got hired by Walmart as an overnight stocker, and at least people respect me even though they all know I am transgender. Working full-time and doing online school doesn’t leave me with much time, but I never stop thinking about chess and how to improve.

If nothing else, documenting what I have learned about chess will help me with more games and improve my Elo ratings online. That’s good enough for me. But if other people respond to what I say and want to VOLUNTARILY donate to me to support me as a chess coach and author, then I thank them.

My business model is the same as that of lichess.org. That site runs entirely on volunteers and donations. One promise I make is that if people follow me and donate to my Twitch stream or buy my books, I will be donating to keep the site alive because it really is the best place to play chess online.

Lichess.org is the best because it is free and has plenty of resources for new and experienced players, but also because being a Streamer on lichess.org does not require exclusivity. Chess.com is a great site, but many features are locked behind a paywall, and their Streamer policy requires certain things I could never agree to. So, I decided to promote lichess.org as the greatest site to play chess, as shown in the examples in my chapters that explain opening knowledge.

There will be more chapters after this post devoted to specific openings. For now, enjoy my YouTube playlist where I try to teach some specific things through the lichess analysis board and playing actual live games with people on the internet.

  • Chastity’s Chess Openings Book

    Introduction

I am Chastity White Rose. I am a transgender woman who has known how to play chess since I was 9 years old. I beat the man who taught me, Patrick, in my third game. I once was heavily into the game of chess, but then, after I started working a job, I got busy, and I didn’t have time to play with the seniors at the Gamber Center anymore. By this time, I am sure that my old friends Hank and Jerry are no longer alive, and I miss them.

What happened to get me back into the game of chess after not playing for over ten years was rather strange. Apparently, there is controversy over whether transgender women are allowed to play in women’s chess tournaments. For more information, I offer the following links.

    https://www.chess.com/news/view/fide-publishes-controversial-new-transgender-policy

The rules don’t affect me as a person who only plays online and is not part of official tournaments. I also would NEVER join a women’s only tournament because I would rather face sexual harassment by men playing in the standard tournaments where both men and women are allowed than participate in a tournament restricted to only one gender.

I have also never believed that men and women should be separated in chess because it is the one sport where everyone is equal. Chess is a war of the mind, and what genitals you were born with or how you identify isn’t going to help you win the game.

But because some believe that men are not only physically stronger than women but also mentally stronger than women, I offer you my challenge. You can play me in chess on either lichess.org or chess.com

Let’s see if I really have a “biological advantage,” as some claim. But enough about that, the goal of this series of articles, which will hopefully eventually become a book, is to teach people the things I know that will help current chess players improve.

I offer everything I know about chess openings free of charge to anyone because my knowledge is evolving constantly, and it’s important to know that things may need to be improved upon later. I ask people to give me questions and comments on how I can improve this writing so that I can better fulfill my dream of becoming a chess coach.

In the chapters that follow, I plan to go over my favorite chess openings, which I have had the most success with.

Also, I Stream on Twitch when I find time. If you have played a game with me that you would like me to analyze on a Stream, then please let me know, and I will do so at the next opportunity!

  • The Perfect Image

I have succeeded in creating the perfect image! A perfectly cropped square showing the progress flag with a black and white checkerboard on each side! This image shall be my profile picture!

Through this, people will know that I am one of the Rainbow People and that I play chess. But it is more than that! Certainly, the checkerboard is the symbol of the perfect balance between the light and dark sides of the force.

I am Chastity White Rose. My legal name is Chandler Klebs, and I answer the name Chastity or Chandler. I am the creator of the video game Chaste Tris and also the author of the book series “Chandler’s Honesty“.

  • Chaste Tris 3

Hello everyone! This is a quick post about my recent update to my game I published on Steam, Chaste Tris.

    https://store.steampowered.com/app/1986120/Chaste_Tris

I have worked hard at making this relaxing Tetris game which has no gravity. Most important to the recent update is the addition of music which can be turned on or off with the M key.

    Controls:

The arrows and/or the WASD keys moves a block.

Z and X rotate the blocks

C holds a block for later use, and you can swap infinite times between the current block on screen and the one held.

M turns the music on or off and N switches to the next song. There are 3 songs which I chose from OC Remix that are perfect for this game.

When you move a block down all the way it will stay in place and then the next block appears. Other than that, everything is exactly the same as you would expect in a Tetris game.

I made this as a training tool that I use because I am a really good Tetris player.

The game is free on Steam, but for those who don’t have Steam, you can also download it from my Patreon post totally for free.

Let me know if you have any questions. Years of work have gone into making this game/tool and I am happy to help!

  • Discussion: Mentorship

I have few friendships outside of the internet. However, when considering the content I view online and the people I am connected with, I realize there are some key figures I know that already fill the mentor roles for me.

    1. The master of craft

The master of the craft that I have been studying is Levy Rozman. He has many similarities with me but also has a lot more professional experience than I do. He is both a streamer and a chess coach who wrote a book titled “How to Win at Chess”. Part of what makes him a mentor to me is that he is doing all the right marketing strategies and is one of the most famous people in the world of chess.

What makes Levi so effective is that he provides hundreds of hours of free content on YouTube and Twitch, teaching people the principles of chess and example games. But he is really more than that because he is also a comedian, in my opinion, because he includes recurring jokes that make his audience laugh and people go crazy in the comments. Such recurring themes include mentioning Magnus Carlson in every video, phrases such as “and then he sacrificed THE ROOK!” and showing ridiculous games that never should have happened but did! Doing this style of comedy is perfect when combined with the most played board game in the world. Levy (also known by the username GothamChess) has made use of everything he has to bring the knowledge of chess to players and entertain the internet for over ten years.

    1. The champion of your cause

According to the article I read, this type of mentor is someone in my current workplace. In this case, I would like to mention 2 people who are both my team leads at Walmart. I really feel like Carl and Cendahl have my back, and they also communicate with others about my work ethic. I love them both as mentors who share their experience and wisdom that I rarely find in a grocery store job. That being said, if I had to choose only one of them as a mentor, I would choose Carl because he always tells me to prioritize my schoolwork, even over my job. I couldn’t forget this because right now, I am taking his advice and writing this post while I take a night off. Carl is the man who knows what takes priority. I don’t know the full story, but he was previously a Rocket Scientist who changed careers so he could raise his kids better.

    1. The copilot

The copilot I would like to mention at my current Walmart job is Tina. Of all the people I have worked with before in either the Frozen or Grocery departments, Tina shares the same work ethic as I do. I know that we fully support each other and do our fair share of the work. I specifically remember how she told me the team leads noticed my work ethic and wanted to make me a team lead. I told her I already knew, but I also felt like she was just as much qualified to be a team lead as I was, if not more. We build each other up, and there are no two people in the store who work together better than the two of us. Beyond that, we also have the same taste in music, with the exception of Taylor Swift, who Tina believes is overplayed!

    1. The anchor

My number one friend and family member has always been my mom. She raised me as a single mother, and we only have each other to lean on in our daily lives. Even though she doesn’t understand anything I talk about, she loves me, and I will do just about anything I can to help her. The reason I know she is so important to me is that I often fear what will happen when I lose her because I have never been without her support my entire life, with the exception of Navy Boot Camp when I could not talk to her at all. That was a hard time, but not as hard as it will be when she dies.

To this day, the username for her email is navyboymom. I may no longer be in the Navy, and I’m not a boy anymore (I am transgender), but she is still my mom. Some things change, but some things never do. I have a feeling that not even death can separate me from her love.

Most importantly, she accepted me when I came out as transgender, and I realized that she loved me for who I actually was rather than what body I happened to be born into at the time. I should have known she would, but still, I was afraid because I had heard stories of those who were not so lucky and were rejected by their family.

    1. The reverse mentor

I don’t actually have an example of a reverse mentor based on the required TED article I read. I have never been a mentor or teacher to someone else before in my life. So, instead, I will tell you what I first guessed a reverse mentor is!

I would guess that a reverse mentor is someone who is the opposite kind of teacher who teaches you the kind of person you DO NOT want to be. I would like to mention my father. He taught me that I do not want to be the kind of person who beats their spouse, lies and never keeps promises, divorces their wife who has been faithful to them for 18 years even when putting up with abuse, and then has the nerve to contact me and recommend a book on how to be a man.

He even had the nerve to tell me that I am self-centered. Am I? Well, in that case, I guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree! I will give him credit where it is due. He taught me everything about who I don’t want to be. I vowed when I was a child to speak the truth and be the opposite of my dad. As I live my life, I often think about how I will be successful in spite of the bad start I got from having a lack of a father. Instead, I followed the example of my mother because she was the man!
