  • Walmart Ends Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

I have many thoughts about the recent statements from Walmart abandoning their DEI policies.

I am an Overnight Stocker who was hired on September 5th, 2023. When I first started, I was required to go through many training modules on the computer. Some of these were food-related, such as keeping things at the right temperature and avoiding cross-contamination. Some were about what to do in emergencies or active shooter situations. However, my favorite was the one on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. It had specific examples with cartoon characters and voices about what to do in situations when someone is being mistreated because of their race, gender identity, disability, etc. I thought it was one of the coolest trainings I did because it was about how we should treat people.

And now, with the news that Walmart is removing DEI from their communications, I can’t help but wonder if this is just a political movement to save their reputation by pleasing the customers and politicians who have an agenda to eliminate LGBT people and people of other races. This news also does not hit very well for me because I am Transgender, and two black female coworkers who were good friends of mine were fired in the past year. These women were not new hires either, and they had both been there much longer than I have. Is the goal to bring society to a time where only cisgender, heterosexual, and white men are able to have jobs? That is how it used to be a long time ago.

To me, DEI is just a reminder that we should remember that people are different and learn to understand and treat them with respect. But apparently, others do not see it that way.

  • Chastity’s Introduction for Publishing and Distribution Class

    1. What’s your name? (And pronouns?)

Name: Chastity White Rose, formerly Chandler Isaac Klebs. Pronouns: Her/she because I am as sweet as chocolate.

    2. Where are you from?

Lee’s Summit, Missouri, is my hometown because I have spent the longest time here.

    3. What did you come to Full Sail to learn to write? (Film, TV, Games, Comics, or Books)

I have already published books, but I wanted to become a better quality writer and learn more about the industry of publishing books. I hope to continue writing my books and help others publish theirs, even if they don’t know how to use a computer. I can do the technical heavy lifting through what I have learned in my Creative Writing program and my self-motivated learning.

    4. What genres do you primarily write?

I have been primarily concerned with writing information to educate people in an entertaining way. My most recent work, Chastity’s Chess Chapters, is a Chess book designed to teach people all the rules but also give them the tools to improve at playing Chess. I also have written a series of books, Chandler’s Honesty, containing my conversations with a unicorn in my dreams.

    5. What is your long-term career goal?

Ideally, I would like to work for a publishing company where I am working with others on getting their books published and formatted the right way. Until then, I have a fairly stable job at Walmart to make a living since I have not had any success at getting my books to sell. I know that being a novelist is not a reliable source of income and that most people will need to work boring jobs in order to survive. Personally, this doesn’t bother me too much because I prefer my writing to be separate from concerns about money. Money and Honesty rarely work well together. I would hate to feel pressured to write my work in a way that is censored by what will sell rather than what is true.

  • Spanish Chess book now available!

Thanks to Google Translate, it is now possible to translate the books I write into languages I don’t know. As long as my English is correct in the original, I have found that Google Translate has translated things accurately in my experience with a Spanish speaking friend from work. We use Google Translate all the time and it is the only way we can communicate.

I consider this a huge milestone in my business because not only has AI proven useful at making music from my words, but now it is possible to actually translate my words into other languages. The possibilities of what this can mean for me as an author and Chess teacher is beyond imagination!

  • Art != Artist

I am not a fan of the Harry Potter series no JK Rowling’s work in general. However I do support freedom of speech. Therefore I just want to say that I am really tired of the drama that some people make about banning or burning the Harry Potter series. Some of you are even more hateful than JK has expressed herself in her tweets.

JK and I will never be friends because she doesn’t like transgender or asexual people. I have seen her hateful statements.

But I want to warn my transgender people, don’t become the monster they fear you are! Don’t become like JK Rowling. Don’t judge a book by its cover, or the author who wrote it.

  • Florida

What place in the world do you never want to visit? Why?

I will never visit Florida again because transgender people will be arrested regardless of which restroom they use. The same is true for anyone who is not transgender but is accused of being so because of their appearance.

These things happen in other places too but Florida is the state of the USA with the worst reputation for my people.
